Member of Parliament (MP) for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Frederick Opare Ansah, has pledged his constituents more years of responsible leadership which will hinge on massive development.

The three-term MP, who has been nicknamed ‘Suhum Mugabe’ mainly for the massive endorsement he receives from the people during elections since he represented his people in Parliament some 15 years ago, firmly believes he has a lot up his sleeves to offer the people thus he will not step down when the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) organises Parliamentary primaries for its MPs ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The MP made the revelation on Saturday November 23, 2019 while delivering a speech at a durbar to mark 20 years of the enstoolment of the Omanhene of Suhum Traditional Area, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi which coincided with this year’s Suhum Odwira Festival.

Congratulating Osabarima Ayeh Kofi for the 20 years of transformational leadership in the area, Hon. Opare Ansah noted that the long years of collaboration between Nananom and his office has seen tremendous progress in the lives of the people through various government programmes which, to him, means that the two need to work together for a tad more years.

“I am not tired of serving you, my people. Nana is celebrating his 20th anniversary as the chief of Suhum, I have spent only 15 years as your member of Parliament and you want to believe I’m tired,” the MP said.

Touching on the achievements of the Akufo-Addo government that have positively affected the inhabitants of the constituency, the Chairman of Parliament’s Communication Committee mentioned the free senior high school programme and said it has lessened the burden of parents whose wards are in senior high schools.

He said the school feeding programme which hitherto was not done effectively is being expanded to cover all government schools in the constituency, adding that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),which was in a bad state, has been revived to cater for the health needs of the majority of Ghanaians.

“The National Health Insurance Scheme which was overburdened with debts has been given life because our President Nana Akufo-Addo has paid the debt worth about 1.2 billion and today we all can access quality healthcare in our constituency,” he added.

To him, there are more social interventions and people-centered programmes his office and the government will roll out for the people of Suhum as a sign of accounting to the people.

“I can’t be tired of serving you…We know a lot of people who have been married for 30 years and are not tired because it is a better marriage. My term is like such marriages. My Suhum people, I know our marriage is a good one that deserves to last for many years,” Mr Opare Ansah said to a rapturous applause from the crowd.

In his speech, Osabarima Kofi Ayeh commended the government for the numerous projects in the Suhum Municipality which includes the quality of education the people enjoy, water projects and the rehabilitation of roads.

However, He appealed to the Akufo-Addo government to speed up the rehabilitation of the Suhum Municipal Hospital, continue with the tarring of access roads in the town and its adjoining communities and eliminate all schools under trees in the constituency.

Present at the ocassion was Eastern Regional Minister, Kwakye Darfour, Suhum Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Margaret Darkwa, some former government appointees and other stakeholders in the constituency.
