One person has been arrested by authorities after Illegal loggers invaded Sumborun in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region where they were cutting rosewood.

Nicholas Fafa in his early 40s who is said to have been harvesting rosewood in the Sumborun area without permit, says he took a loan to fell the trees but was never able to get tractors to collect them until his conveyance certificate run out of date.

According to him, he was in the area after a renewed conveyance permit to collect the over six containers of cut rosewood.

District Chief Executive for the area that led members of District Security Council (DISEC) to arrest him, disclosed that he had received reports from residents that some persons were cutting down trees in the area and therefore visited the place to ascertain things for themselves.

He revealed that the suspect claimed he had permit to cut down the trees but could not convey them prior to the setting in of the rains but observed there were freshly cut wood when members of DISEC got to the scene.
