Cape Coast, March 6, GNA - More than 150 security personnel, including contingents from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Fire service, Immigration Service, Prison Service, Army and cadet corps from six schools on Thursday took part in the 51 Independence anniversary parade held at the Victoria jubilee park in Cape Coast. In attendance were mass bands from the Prisons and Police Service from Accra, with Captain Alex Cann of the 64 Infantry Battalion in Accra as the Parade Commander.
Children from more than 20 schools, Prison officers' wives association, boys and girls' brigade and the catholic youth organisation also participated in the march past. The Regional Mnister, Nana Ato Arthur and Nana Amba Eyiaba, deputy Regional Director of Education jointly inspected the parade after Christian, Muslim and traditional prayers. Nana Arthur, who read the President's speech, commended the security agencies and the schools for the smart turn out and said for the first time since independence, the country has enjoyed 15 years of uninterrupted governance under constitutionally elected president and that every Ghanaian should be proud of the feat and resolve to help sustain these good records. Awards were given to school that excelled in the March past. In the primary school level, Efutu M/A primary came first, Pedu primary D came second while AME Zion D primary got the third position. In the junior High School level, Montessori preparatory school came first, while Ola Girls boarding school and Abakam Cran School came second and third respectively. Wesley Girls High school came first in the Senior High School category, while Holy Child and Oguaa Secondary technical took the second and third positions respectively. Tigo mobile phone operators presented mathematical sets to all students who took part in the March past. In a related development Abura Arabic school was adjudged the over all best environmentally friendly school. The Cape Coast school for the deaf, Cape Coast Presby School, Effutu M/A, Christ Anglican Church school, Archbishop Amissah and Abura Ahmadiyya schools were also presented with awards for being environmentally friendly schools in the cape coast circuit.
