‘Insist on judicious use of resources in schools’

Mrs Mary Owusu-Achaw, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has urged board of governors of Senior High Schools (SHS) to scrutinise financial and audit reports of the schools to promote transparency in funds management.

They should do everything to make sure that there was judicious use of resources allocated to the institutions, she said.

She said there was also the need to submit regular reports to the Education Ministry for action.

Mrs Owusu-Achaw made the call during the inauguration of the re-constituted 13-member of Board of Governors of the T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS in Kumasi.

She cautioned them against any temptation to hijack or engage in turf fight with the headmaster over the day-to-day administration of the school, saying they must accept to operate within their remit and work together to find solution to challenges to make the school environment academically-friendly.

Mr Ayyub Morgan, the Chairman, pledged to focus on helping to build on the school’s solid academic performance to make it an obvious choice for students from across the country.

He said as they performed their functions, they would always be guided by the regulations of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and they would not close their eyes to acts of corruption, discrimination, and intimidation of both students and staff.

Alhaji Yakub A.B. Abubakar, the Headmaster, applauded the significant contribution made to the progress of the School by the immediate past board and expressed the hope that the new board would continue the good work to sustain the high level of discipline among both students and teachers.
