International Evangelist complains about low reading culture

Accra, July 16, GNA – Dr Lawrence Tetteh, a Ghanaian international evangelist, at the weekend expressed concern about the low reading culture among Ghanaians and called for a change of attitude.

He said Ghanaian Christian authors found it convenient to sell their books outside the shores of the country especially in Nigeria and South Africa where the market is good.

Dr Tetteh, who is also the Founder and Leader of World Miracle Outreach was speaking at the launching of “Walk the Walk, stop just talking the Talk,” in Accra, a 106- page book authored by Mrs Olawunmi Biriyok, a UK-based Ghanaian Solicitor.

“In Nigeria people buy books and even reprint and sell them. Somebody even attempted to sell a pirated copy of my book; ‘Dangers of Offences’ to me,” he said.

“In Ghana if you publish a book it ends up in bookshops. People don’t buy them.”

He called on journalists to be circumspective about their reportage and desist from libelling people without justification.

Dr Tetteh, who bought the first autographed book, recommended it to the public “to walk the walk and just stop talking the talk”.

Dr Koku Adomdza, a legal practitioner and human rights activist, endorsed the book to the Christian community and the corporate world.

Reverend Dr Isaac Quaye, Founder of Word of Life Christian Centre, who reviewed the book, said it was one of the answers to the critical issues affecting the church, families and the corporate world.

“It is a must read for every one... to help shape policies.”

Mrs Biriyok said she had the drive to publish the book on 13 January, this year, which she said was about her life changing life story including the steps to earn humility.

She said her Christian life had been very rough but God was able to see her through to be able to “walk the talk”.

Walk the Walk is an empowering novel, in which the author introduces the reader to key elements of “the walk of righteousness” such as faith, humility, compassion, obedience, selflessness, love and prayer.

The author’s inspirational approach with Walk the Walk appeals to many different types of people in a variety of locations in Ghana and abroad, as she demonstrates these virtues through the stories of key Biblical figures such as Noah, Abraham, and Moses in the Old Testament and Jesus Christ and the Apostle Peter in the New Testament.

From these stories, she draws practical lessons for the Christian of today.

Throughout the book, the author weaves the thread of her own life changing experiences and the practical ways she has shown her faith and compassion for others.

The book is a valuable addition to the devotional library for either the new Christian searching for guidance or the experienced Christian who seeks renewal and enlightenment in the walk of faith, providing knowledge beyond what one may gain in attending church regularly.
