It is an offence to refuse posting - Onyinah

Obuasi, Sept. 04, GNA The unified code of Professional Conduct for Ghana Education Service (GES) makes it punishable for teachers to refuse to accept postings.

Mr Joseph K. Onyinah, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education who announced this said It is punishable for any teacher to refuse to accept postings under the unified code of conduct for the GES. He was addressing the opening session of a day's orientation for 48 newly trained teachers posted to the Obuasi Municipality at Obuasi. The orientation workshop organised by the Municipal Directorate of Education was to provide an opportunity for the new teachers to know their new working environment.

The Municipal Director of Education urged the teachers to contribute their quota to improve basic education delivery within the municipality.

He said the municipality had on two consecutive years topped the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) national league table and that was a challenge to them as new teachers to the area. Mr Onyinah told the teachers that they would not be spared should they introduce any attitude that would have a negative impact on the performance of schools within the municipality. He urged them not to concern themselves with teaching in the classroom alone, but should positively influence the communities where they would be posted to.

You should take up the challenge to improve the lives of the people in your communities, Mr Onyinah told the newly-trained teachers. Mrs Evelyn Benewoe, Obuasi Municipal Girl Child Education Co-ordinator appealed to the teachers to take special interest in the education of the children they would be handling. She advised them not to harass the girl child but should rather encourage the girls to take their studies seriously.

Mrs Benewoe noted that they were going out as role models for the young girls and boys they were going to teach and therefore should be modest in their appearance to school. 04 Sept. 06
