The Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey, and the 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Charles Bissue, have successfully solicited for funds to support the victims of the Essikado premix fuel explosion.

This follows the various contributions they have made after the unfortunate incident at Ngersia, in the Essikado-Ketan constituency.

On Friday, May 24, 2024, the duo led representatives of STL Amandi Foundation to present an amount of GH¢50,000 to the Chief of Ngersia, Nana Dokoa Agyeman III, at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital.

The chief, on behalf of the families affected by the explosion, thanked the two gentlemen, recounting the role they have played since the incident occurred.

He noted, for example, that it was Charles Bissue who organised for ambulances to take three of the victims to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Unfortunately, three of the victims have passed away since the incident occurred.

The explosion is said to have occurred around 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, when some fishermen were transporting premix fuel in gallons to their canoes along the beach.

It is suspected that the fuel may have caught fire from a nearby fish oven.

The incident also affected two stationary vehicles; a Land Rover and an Opel Astra, as well as some wooden structures close by.
