About 70 orphans from two schools in the Asante Akim North District have received learning materials and other items worth GHC2,000.00 from a broadcast Journalist, who hails from the area.

Mr Emmanuel Kofi Ampong, working with the Metro FM at Krapa, near Ejisu, donated the items which included textbooks, mathematical sets, school uniforms and bars of soap.

Others were assorted drinks, second hand clothes, sandals among other gifts.

The beneficiary orphans were from the Banso R/C and Woraponso D/A Primary Schools.

Mr Ampong speaking at the ceremony said the gesture was a social and religious responsibility to put smiles and hope on the faces of the needy children and to help make their lives comfortable and keep them in school.

He said most often, orphans and children from poor homes go through a lot of challenges to obtain education and there was the need for individuals and groups to support them to climb higher in the educational ladder.

Mr Ampong said he would work to increase the number of beneficiaries and extend it to more schools in the future.

He charged the beneficiaries to study hard to achieve higher academic laurels and work to become useful citizens to contribute to the development of their communities, the district and the entire nation.

Mr Obeng Darko, Headmaster of the Banso R/C Basic School, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Journalist for the gesture and promised to guide the children to use the items judiciously.
