KMA introduces vehicle permit sticker for sachet water producers

The Kumasi Metropolitan Authority (KMA) has announced the introduction of vehicle permit stickers for sachet and packaged water producers in the Metropolis.

It involves the display of stickers on the vehicles of holders and takes effect from July 16, 2012.

It would serve as an operational license to permit sachet water producers to sell their produce in the Metropolis.

This was contained in a press release signed for the Metro Chief Executive Mr. Godwin Okumah Nyame, Public Relations Officer, copied to the Ghana News Agency.

According to the release, this is a collaboration between the KMA and the Kumasi branch of the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers and forms part of the move to manage plastic waste in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Sachet water producers are to obtain the stickers from their Association’s branch office at Adum.

They are however advised to go through medical screening at laboratories recognized by the KMA before obtaining the stickers, the release added.

The release said, in line with plastic waste management efforts, special litter bins have been placed at convenient places within the Central Business District of Kumasi for sachet and other plastic waste to be dropped in.

It said, “Sanitation Enforcement Guards would be deployed to arrest and prosecute those who litter the streets to help enforce that bye-law of the Assembly.”**
