KNUST branch of TESCON congratulates Finance Minister

Kumasi, Oct 12, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party, has congratulated Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Finance and Economic Planning Minster, for being adjudged Africa's best Finance Minister by the World Bank and IMF.

A congratulatory message issued in Kumasi on Monday and signed by Mr Owusu Adjabeng, president of the association, noted that the resuscitation of the economy from shambles by the Minister and his entire team was worthy of praise.

The statement said: " Reduction in inflation and interest rates, removal of ghost names from the payroll, relative stability of the cedi and the successful attainment of the completion point in the HIPC initiative in a record time, are a few of the endless chain of achievements chalked by the finance ministry".

It said the success showed that President Kufuor's administration had more than enough men to handle the affairs of the country efficiently and that there was no trace of doubt that the finance minister was one of such men.

The statement said the macro-economic indicators were now right for accelerated economic growth and called on Ghanaians to vote for President Kufuor and the NPP in the 2004 Elections to enable the Party to continue the good work it started in January 2001.
