Kaasi Neighbourhood Watch Committee appeals for support

Kumasi, Feb 21, GNA - The Kaasi Neighbourhood Watch Committee in Kumasi has appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and corporate bodies for logistical support to enable them to operate effectively. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Richard Owusu-Afriyie, Secretary to the Committee said it lacked essential equipment such as rain coats, boots, whistles and torch-lights which was hampering its work.

He said, in view of this, the citizens and corporate bodies should make regular donations in kind or cash to motivate members of the committee and sustain it. Mr Owusu-Afriyie said the monthly contributions from landlords were not enough to sustain the committee forcing the 16 members to go on patrols without uniforms.

This, he said, was very dangerous as any criminal could pose as one of them to advance his evil agenda.

Mr Owusu-Afriyie appealed to the Ghana Police Service to work in collaboration with the committee to train members to maintain a high sense of professionalism.

He called on the Kaasi Community to co-operate with the committee for effective patrol in the community.
