Some residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region have expressed high expectations of the President John Dramani Mahama-led government.
They said his proposed “24-Hour Economy,” Women’s Bank, and Mahama Care Health policies, among other campaign promises, if implemented, were expected to improve their living standards.
They shared these sentiments when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Kadjebi township to gather residents’ expectations from the new government.
Jacob Yaw Atteh Boateng, a 70-year-old shoemaker, told the GNA that the Mahama Care Health policy, a comprehensive healthcare initiative proposed by President John Mahama, was aimed at improving quality healthcare services for all Ghanaians, particularly those in rural and underserved areas.
He said that if implemented, the policy would greatly benefit his family and others.
He also commended the proposed establishment of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund (MAHAMACARES), which aims to support the cost of healthcare for individuals with chronic diseases such as kidney failure, cancer, sickle cell disease, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. He expressed hope that this initiative would come to fruition.
Miss Hilda Akoto, a 20-year-old Senior High School graduate and cosmetics seller, told the GNA she was pleased to hear about the Women’s Bank proposal by the then NDC Flagbearer. The initiative is aimed at economically empowering women in Ghana by providing tailored financial products and services. She expressed high hopes that this proposal would become a reality.
She highlighted the significant financial challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and emphasized that financial support from this bank would be of great help.
Naana Fuseini, a foodstuff seller, told the GNA that the proposed establishment of the Women’s Bank, which is expected to enhance access to credit, promote financial literacy, and encourage savings among women, was laudable. She expressed hope that it would be fully implemented.
She lamented the current situation where many women had to rely on loan facilities with exorbitant interest rates, which she described as unsustainable. She said the bank’s support would be a savior to them.
