The Regent of the late Ya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani II, Kampakuya Na Abdulai Yakubu Andani has been crowned as the Yo Na – Paramount Chief of the Savelugu Traditional Area in the Northern Region.
The investiture was held on Thursday, 28 February 2019 in Yendi amidst the performance of rituals in line with Dagbon tradition and custom.
This forms part of the Dagbon peace process outlined by the Asantehene-led Committee of Eminent Chiefs.
The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abukari II, recently nominated the Kampakuya Na and the Bolin Lana to ascend to the Savelugu and Mion skins, respectively. The Savelugu, Mion and Karaga skins in Dagbon are preserved for only the sons of Ya Nas from the Abudu and Andani royal families.
The new Yo Na is expected to pay homage to the Dagbon Overlord at the Gbewa Palace later.
Mr Issifu Baba, a member of the Ya Na's court, explained to Class91.3FM’s Northern regional correspondent, Mohammed Gadafi that the Yo Na will be received at the Gbewa Palace arena where traditional speeches will be delivered before the chief embarks on a week-long journey to Savelugu.
Class news understands that the Yo Na will visit some villages in the Savelugu Traditional Area to perform certain rituals as stipulated by tradition.
These areas include Kanshegu, Bunlung and Yo, from where the traditional area derives its name before he arrives in Savelugu next week Thursday.
