Kasoa (C/R), Aug. 25, GNA-The Kasoa Number One branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC, generates more than 180 million Cedis from lorry park tolls annually to support the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly in its development programmes. A spokesperson for the Union who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Kasoa on Tuesday said on the average, the union collects a little over 16 million cedis every month from the tolls business it operates on behalf of the assembly.
He said the union deemed it as obligatory to help the district assembly generate adequate funds from the lorry park to enhance the socio-economic development of the area.
Commercial transport operators in and around Kasoa community have been reminded of the role they should play in ensuring that their drivers did not default in the payment of lorry park tolls. The Spokesperson said, apart from the lorry park tolls, commercial drivers dealing with the union are also offered constant orientation courses by branch leaders to keep abreast with traffic regulations to reduce accidents.
He said the union would continue to maintain its collaborative efforts with the assembly to bring about the required changes that travellers expected from commercial drivers.
