The Ketu North Municipal Assembly has recorded its first death of Covid-19 while five other persons test positive for the virus.

The case was a 28-year old young man who fell sick in Tema and returned to the Municipality on Friday, 29 May 2020 to seek healthcare but was referred to the Ketu South Municipal hospital in Aflao.

According to a press release signed today, Thursday, June 4, by the Ketu North MCE, Anthony Avorgbedor, the deceased while at the Ketu South Municipal hospital in Aflao was suspected of contracting the Covid-19 and had his blood samples taken for testing at the UHAS Covid-19 testing centre in Ho.

However, the deceased passed on the same day, even before his test result came positive on Monday, 1 June 2020.

Following the death of the deceased and the positive result, health officials informed the families and embarked on a rigorous contact tracing, where blood samples of 18 persons who came into contact with him were taken for testing.

Meanwhile, the statement from the Municipal noted that “the sample results came out today June 4, 2020, with five out of the 18 persons testing positive.”

It added that “The Municipal Health Directorate is continuing with contact tracing of the five positive cases,” while urging the public to remain calm and continue to adhere to the preventive protocols as the Municipal Covid-19 response team takes steps to contain the further spread of the virus.

This brings the region’s death tally to two with the current case count standing at 86.
