Kumasi, Sept. 19, GNA - A minister of the Methodist Church of Ghana has called on the church to kick against the hero worshipping of ministers of religion.
The Very Reverend Kofi Asare-Bediako, the out-going Superintendent Minister of the Wesley Methodist Cathedral at Adum in Kumasi, who made the call, said there had been instances where the transfer of some ministers created division amongst the congregation and described such situations as unfortunate.
Preaching his last sermon at a farewell service at the Cathedral on Sunday, he asked the church members to be supportive and dedicated to the overall objectives of the church rather than pursuing agenda that had the tendency to impede the progress of the church. Very Rev Asare-Bediako, who has spent eight years as the Superintendent Minister in-charge of the Wesley Cathedral, is on transfer to the church's headquarters in Accra.
The Very Reverend Fred Ansu, Superintendent Minister in-charge of the Obuasi Wesley Methodist Cathedral, would replace him. The outgoing Superintendent Minister admonished Christians to study the word of God and strive to apply it in all their endeavours to enhance the church's mission statement of saving lost souls and society from evil.
Very Rev. Asare-Bediako also charged Christians to uphold truth and honesty since he said they were the hallmark of every committed disciple of Christ.
The Right Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, in a message delivered on his behalf, lauded the outgoing minister for his sense of objectivity and dedication towards God's work and asked him to always uphold the truth to enable him succeed.
