The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central in the Upper East Region, Josep Kofi Adda, has ordered the Kasena-Nankana Municipality to release GH¢40,000 to support COVID-19 response measures in the area.

A letter from the office of the MP, who doubles as the Minister for Aviation, to the Municipal Assembly sighted by 3news.com directed that the funds be channelled through the accounts of “the health management team”.

The letter in parts explained the need for the municipality to prepare adequately in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.

“This is to inform you that in the face of the rapid spread of the pandemic, there is the need for the municipality to develop and strengthen its preparedness to contain its spread in the area”, it stated.

“I am therefore authorizing the release of the sum of Forty-Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢40, 000) to assist the efforts of the municipality, through the account of the health management team to execute such measures”, it continued.

The funds are expected to be used by a team drawn from the War Memorial Hospital, the Public Health Unit in the municipality, the Navrongo Health Research Centre, UTAS and the MP’s own representative, one Dr. Martin Abavana.

As a guide for the utilization of the funds, the MP, who is seeking reelection, has proposed that the money be used to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), preparation of potential quarantine centres, public education and orientation for professional teams that will be in the frontline.

An aide to the MP, Clifford Achaari, who shed more light on the MP’s gesture said the money has since hit the account of the Municipal Health Directorate.
