Ghana Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, has donated assorted food, furniture and sanitary items worth over GH¢1,000 to the inmates of the Koforidua Prison.
Pastor Seth Asare Nyarko, Youth Director of the conference, said the presentation was to affirm the continuing love of God to the inmates, who in addition to suffering the mental anguish of being imprisoned, also face neglect and rejection from the society. He said in addition to ministering to them for the salvation of their souls and for their redemption, it was also an abiding commitment of the church to show kindness to those that need it most.
Pastor Nyarko commended the authorities of the Koforidua Prison for expending their personal resources on the inmates and seeking their welfare. He said because subsidy on the inmates was meagre, it was incumbent on their surviving families to make efforts to support rather than neglecting them. Superintendent Kwaku Ababio-Ali, who received the items, applauded the SDA church for the yeoman's role it was playing in helping mould the inmates to ensure that they become meaningful participants of society when they finish serving their jail term.
