Komenda Sec. Tech. students suspended indefinitely

Komenda, Feb. 23, GNA - Students of Komenda Secondary Technical School were on Monday asked to go home following a violent demonstration during which they destroyed school property.

A teacher who pleaded anonymity told the GNA that the students went on rampage at about 1900hrs on Sunday night but she did not come out of her house for fear of being attacked.

When asked what had triggered the demonstration, she mentioned alleged poor food and dinning facilities for students, inadequate provision of text books and school uniforms and transportation. She said some Form Three students complained that they had not yet received items such as books and uniforms, paid for when they were in Form One. On the issue of transport, she said the school bus which is supposed to convey students is parked on the instruction of the headmaster while students board commercial vehicles with their own monies. During the demonstration the students destroyed furniture, electric bulbs, windows of the Assistant Headmaster's office and the school's pick-up vehicle. Even though the headmaster's office was not touched during the demonstration, the students pasted a notice at the entrance which read, "How long must a feverish bird tremble in silence before its keeper? We are tired of your excuses." Also on the road leading to the school, GNA found a sign post that read "Ghana Education Service, please hear the cry of students of KSTS". Efforts by the GNA to talk to the headmaster, Mr David Bonney was unsuccessful as he was out of campus. 23 Feb 10
