Kpeve to get potable water

Accra, Nov. 07, GNA - Mr Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, on Wednesday said Kpeve in the Volta Region would be provided with potable water by the end of the June 2008. He said the works to provide the water would involve the laying of pipelines and installation of a 22,000-gallon reservoir "The budget for the project is captured under the Government of Ghana 2008 financial estimates," Mr Saddique Boniface said in response to a question in Parliament on when Kpeve would be provided with potable water.

Responding to a different question from Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, NPP member for Atwima-Nwabiagya, the Minister said engineering services for dam safety assessment and rehabilitation has been undertaken on the Owabi dam in the Ashanti Region to control perennial flooding of the area.

He said the ministry was collaborating with the chief of Owabi to secure land from the Apagya stool to enable a resettlement programme to take off.

Mr Owusu-Bio had sought to find out when the ministry was going to resettle the people of Owabi village due to the perennial flooding resulting from the construction of the Owabi dam. The Minister agreed to suggestions that the flooding was partly due to the siltation of the reservoir and said arrangement was in place to get an equipment to desilt the reservoir.
