Kpone, Jan. 14, GNA - The Kpone Traditional Council (KTC) has appealed to the West African Gas Pipeline Project Company to re-examine the naming of the site for the construction of the Regulatory and Metering Station (RMS) to reflect its proper location at Kpone. The council proposed that the site for the project be named "Sega Gonno," which is the ancestral settlement of the people of Kpone in the Tema Municipality.
The appeal was contained in a letter signed by Nii Tetteh Otu, Chief of Kpone and President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
The letter stated that at a workshop on December 8, 2003, "we registered our displeasure at the fact that the name of Kpone was inadvertently removed from all the presentations, despite the full co-operation by the Chiefs and people towards the realisation of the project".
It said the site had been jointly inspected by the members of the traditional council, the WAGP staff and the Estate Valuers to identify the controls, boundary pillars and the right-of-way of the pipeline from the beach to the proposed site.
The traditional authorities stated that they never objected to the grant of entry permit to the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to enable the Valuers to undertake enumeration of crops and properties within the row of the project.
Meanwhile, Mr Akwasi Prempeh, Community Relations Representative on the Project, said the site was earmarked for the project in consultation with the traditional authorities of Kpone, Tema and the TDC.
He said the officials of the project were only interested in getting the project implemented and that naming of the site should be the responsibility of the TDC.
Mr Prempeh said the WAGP was not interested in dabbling in issues that are likely to create confusion adding that when completed, the project would benefit the Tema Municipality and the entire nation. He therefore called on the authorities of the Kpone area to contact officials of the Project for discussion and amicable solution. Mr William Acquah, Acting Director of Development of the TDC, said the issue was "no big deal" and called on the two traditional authorities of Kpone and Tema to come together after which the right title would be given to the site.
