Quarshie
Suhum (E/R), March 2, GNA- Kuapa Kokoo Limited, a Licensed Cocoa Buying Company (LBC) has instituted a scholarship package in honour of the late Tetteh Quarshie, who is reputed to have brought the cocoa bean that facilitated the commercial farming of the cash crop in Ghana.
Nana Kwadwo Appiah-Kubi, Chairman of the Company who made this known at a national delegates conference of the venture at Suhum in the Eastern Region, said the package would include a member from the family of Tetteh Qurashie, who would be sponsored from the basic to the tertiary level. He said although the nation had immortalised the name of Tetteh Quarshie, a lot still need to be done particularly by the LBCs who are now reaping the fruits of his labour. "We should forever be grateful to him for his singular effort that had enabled many Ghanaians to find a means of livelihood."
Nana Appiah-Kubi said the Company was constructing three school projects at a total cost of about 1.5 billion cedis at Asawinso in the Western Region, Apedwa in the Eastern and Sankore in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
Mr Kwabena Ohemeng-Tinyase, Managing Director of the Company said many communities had been assisted to acquire alternative livelihoods in the area of grasscutter and snail rearing whilst sustaining the natural biodiversity.
