The managing director of Kuapa Kokoo, Emmanuel Arthur, has rallied for national unity against illegal mining at the organization's 30th annual conference.
Addressing the threat of "galamsey" to Ghana's cocoa sector, the MD highlighted water contamination from mining activities as a major concern, impacting crop spraying and cocoa health.
Praising the government's efforts to combat cocoa smuggling and improve farmer prices, he stressed the urgent need for collaboration between the government, communities, and farmers to tackle illegal mining's devastating effects.
On his part, the President of the Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union (KKFU), James Agyekum Kwarteng, also emphasized the critical role of water resources and the threat of deforestation. He therefore urged swift action to protect Ghana's cocoa heritage. They all said this during the organization's 30th annual conference held in Kumasi.
The conference, which focused on boosting farmer income through value addition and diversification, brought together key stakeholders to address these critical challenges facing the cocoa industry.
