Kufuor commissions administrative block for Afigya

Agona (Ash), Nov 1, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Sunday inaugurated a 1.3 billion-cedi administrative block for the Afigya-Sekyere District Assembly, at Agona in the Ashanti Region. The District Assembly financed the three -storey block with 36 offices from its share of the District Assemblies' Common fund.

President Kufuor who performed the ceremony as part of his six days official tour of the Region also addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people.

He called on Ghanaians to give the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) a second mandate for the Party to implement its vision for the nation on a new theme: "Positive Change -Chapter Two".

President Kufuor said victory for the NPP would ensure improvement in education, health care delivery and accelerated growth.

He said the Government could implement its vision successfully, effectively and efficiently only when the electorate vote massively for both the presidential and parliamentary candidates of the Party. President Kufuor appealed to supporters of the Party to put all the bickering and animosities that characterised the primaries behind them and forge ahead in unity for a massive victory for the Party in the December 7 polls.

He urged supporters of the NPP who had decided to vote for only the presidential candidate and not the parliamentary candidate to have a second thought of the havoc it could create for the second tenure of the Government.

"We should not allow any motive affect the impending victory of the Party in any of the constituencies," he said.

President Kufuor addressed similar durbars at Nsuta, Wiamoase and Asamang in the Sekyere West and Afigya-Sekyere districts.

At Nsuta, President Kufuor warned that contracts awarded to incompetent contractors especially road contractors would be terminated. He denied rumours that citizens from Nsuta, Beposo and Kwamang areas would not be offered appointments in the NPP Government.

"There is no iota of truth in such an allegation, those peddling such rumours were only trying to sow seeds of discord between the people and the Government."

President Kufuor said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development would explore the possibility of creating a new District Assembly for the area.

The chiefs commended the Government for the provision of development projects in their communities but however called for the improvement of the roads, provision of potable water, health and telecommunication facilities.
