Residents in the Kumasi metropolis experienced partial eclipse of the sun on the early hours of Wednesday. Prior to the information that the event was going to take place, most people decided to remain indoors with their children to avoid any mishaps.
Few cars were seen on the roads while the market stalls and shops remained closed. When it was 0830 hours, a siren sounded with people eager to see what was going to happen since it was in 1947 that a similar incident occurred in the country. With people glued to their television sets to see what was going to happen in other parts of the country, the event started unfolding from exactly 0830 hours with the moon wrestling with the sun. People started using their eclipse glasses to watch the event. Other people used film negatives, used x-ray films and other translucent materials to watch the event. The struggle continued until 0915 hours when the whole weather changed with the atmosphere looking darker with black shades on trees and corners.
Drivers drove with their lights on with some tooting the horns of their vehicles while people stood standstill watching what was going on. Just after four to five minutes the atmosphere started changing to normal when the moonlight passed away. 29 March 06
