Nkwabeng (B/A), Feb. 2, GNA - Mr. Kwasi Denteh, Nkoranza District Police Commander, has urged members of the public to desist from meting instant justice to suspected criminals but to hand them over to the police. Inaugurating a 25-member Neighbourhood Watch Committee at Nkwabeng, near Nkoranza, he deplored the practice by some people to kill suspects, saying such behaviour disturbed police investigations into alleged crimes.
He advised members of the committee to guard against partisan politicking as well as indulging in chieftaincy disputes in the performance of their duties and to report events likely to affect security in the area to the police. The Police Commander urged them to organize the youth to get actively involved in communal labour activities, adding, the police had plans to form more watchdog committees to help in combating crime in the district. Mr. Denteh advised them to eschew practices that could tarnish their image as security agents and as role models. Mr. Kwame Baffoe-Duah, Assembly Member for Nkwabeng Yeboasa expressed gratitude to the police for their efforts in maintaining security in the area and gave assurance of the people's support for the committee.
