Mamponteng (Ash), May 26, GNA - Kwabre District has been selected with six other districts to benefit from Education Quality For All (EQUAL) programme of Ghana Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT) II under USAID.
The other districts are Amansie East, Sekyere West, and Asante-Akim North, all in Ashanti Region, Twifo-Hemang and Lower Denkyira in the Central Region and West Akim and Fanteakwa, in the Eastern Region. Mr Eddie Afful, Deputy Zone Co-ordinator of the GAIT, said this at a day's workshop organised by the Kwabre Civic Union in collaboration with GAIT at Mamponteng on Tuesday.
Thirty-two Parent/Teacher Associations from primary and junior secondary schools in the district attended the workshop. It aimed at evolving strategies to rekindle dormant PTAs in the district and also form a District Association of PTA (DAPTA).
Mr Afful said under the programme, beneficiary districts would receive 100,000 US dollars annually starting from this year up to 2008 and that communities that demonstrate active citizens involvement in educational programmes will get 1,000 dollars support within the period.
Mr Isaac Abrokwa, Technical Assistant to Kwabre, Afigya-Sekyere and Upper Denkyira districts of GAIT, appealed to the participants to help revamp dormant PTAs in the districts.
He said there was the need for them to help provide quality education in their communities to improve standard of education in the district.
