Kwamang to get an ICT centre

Kwamang (Ash), April 12, GNA- Kwamang in the Sekyere West District of Ashanti is among 24 other communities selected countrywide by the government for the construction of an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre.

Mr Kwame Osei-Prempeh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsuta-Kwamang, said work on the project, which had already been awarded on contract, would commence by the middle of this month.

The MP was addressing an Easter fund-raising rally held in aid of the completion of a hospital project started by the chiefs and people of the town three years ago.

Mr Osei-Prempeh said in addition to the ICT centre, the government has voted 600 million cedis from the HIPC relief fund towards the improvement of the street drainage system in the community. The MP noted that the constituency has seen tremendous progress within the last three years.

He advised parents in the area to give more attention to the education of their children, saying, this was the best form of investment they could give to their children.

Mr Osei-Prempeh said as part of his efforts at promoting education in the constituency, he has selected 43 students for scholarship awards. Last year, he paid over 34 million cedis on their school fees. He suggested to the Kwamang Traditional Council to consider setting up an endowment fund to support brilliant but needy pupils and students. Barimah Abayie Ntori-Nimpah II, Omanhene of Kwamang, told his people particularly the youth to identify themselves with the development activities of the area by paying their development levies. He warned that those who default in the payment of the levies would be prosecuted.

More than 100 million cedis was realised at the function.
