A teacher of the Labone Senior High School and her family have been rendered homeless after their four-bedroom house was demolished by officials of the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA).

The house was pulled down allegedly based on a complaint filed by a neighbor that the property owner has encroached on his land.

LEKMA is reported to have carried out the demolition contrary to an advice that the claimants should go to court to resolve the impasse over the ownership of the land.

Narrating her ordeal Friday on Morning Starr, a wailing Bernice Avorgbedor said she is extremely distraught, stating: “They demolished the whole building. My thesis that I have written, my laptop that I have in the room they have destroyed it. Now I don’t have access to this information to even submit [for my master’s programme].”

She thus promised to stop at nothing to seek damages for the loss the action has caused her family.

The action of LEKMA, according to a private legal practitioner and expert in land law, Lwang Pouzuing is unwarranted, stating that they lack the legal justification for pulling down Ms. Avorgbedor’s property.

He therefore urged her to seek legal redress if she had before putting up the structure applied and got approval from the Assembly.

“Once she has a permit or she was allowed to build without notice to them or with notice to them I don’t think that they can demolish her structure based on the fact that somebody else is complaining that I’m the owner of the property. That is the matter for the court to determine. Not the district assembly,” he stated on Morning Starr Friday.
