LIMI To Promote Peace With Sports

A Civil Society Organization, Liberated Mind International, has outlined a number of sporting programs to promote peace throughout the election year.
The organization which seeks to influence the future of Ghana’s leaders through youth leadership training programs, in contribution to the nation’s quest to come out of the December poll united than ever.
The Executive Director who doubles as the Assembly Member for Nii Okaiman Electoral Area, Hon. Samuel Owusu Adjei in his address called on politicians to take advantage of the various initiatives of various concerned organizations to prove to the voting populace that the passionate argument on our airwaves are just a expression of varied views on the best way to build up the nation and not an attempt to cause chaos or segregate the nation.
He additionally entreated politician to be cautious on the kind of words they use on radio and Television as it has the potency of prompt violence amongst the general public.
He also called on the media to censor the kind of information they bring out for public consumption as broadcasting of messages that encourage hate and division has caused the fall of many African countries. ”The longevity our democracy is high dependent on the kind of news the media broadcast, most especially in this year’s election”.
Play for Peace he said he said, as an initiative would bring the leaders and supporters of all the political parties together in the friendliest atmosphere to prove to the general public that election is just to empower citizen to participate in the selection of leadership to spear the affairs of the Nation.
The Program which is set to take place on the 21st of April this year, would bring together all the major stake holders in Ghana’s politics.
The flag bearers of the various political parties, majority of whom have openly their commitment to peace and the development of this nation are expected to deliver a message of peace and also advice their supporters on the need to comport themselves in the most respectable manner before and after the election.
The project coordinator, Mr. Isaac Kyei Andoh reveled that one of the reasons that makes the initiative necessary is the kind of utterances and argument that are heard of radio and Television these day .
According to him, what media portrays is in sharp contrast with the way the Members of Parliament, Party Leaders and Ministers relate privately. “the fact that most Ghanaians do not know the kind of cordial relations hip between the the various party leaders, Ghanaians do not know that after the heated debates on radio and TV, the politicians hug each other and exchange the most friendly pleasantries. He said. “Play for Peace would let them see that” he added.
He said though the nation has come out clean in five consecutive general elections, expects and even international organization have warn the nation on the need thing the right to ensure the progression the entire nation toiled for.
He said the fact that many African countries resort to the expertise of Ghana Electoral Commission during their election also underlines the fact that Ghana’s electoral commission kept is credibility intact and can therefore be counted on to organize a balance and free and fair election.
Ghana’s electoral Commission has come a long way and has proven time and time again that it can be relied on if given the independence to organize the election”
To further promote, peace before and after the elections, the organization has identified a number of high profile personalities who would serve as PEACE AMBASSADORS and use their image to promote peace through television and radio adds that would be facilitated by Liberated Minds International with the support of Corporate Ghana.
