Donkorkrom -- THE DONKOKROM Presbyterian Hospital, the largest health facility in the Afram Plains district lacks a number of facilities for efficient delivery.
This was made known to Chronicle when this reporter visited the district recently. According to the hospital's general manager, Mr. Fred Effah Yeboah, the voltage of electricity power to the hospital is very low, so when doctors are in the theatre, they cannot use the air-conditioner when the operating lamp is on.
The ex-ray equipment is also affected because of the low voltage. There are also no mortuary facilities at the hospital so in the event of death, the body has to be buried immediately or the family of the deceased would have to transport the body across one of the lakes circled around the district and on the bumpy road to other district where such facilities are available.
Another problem is lack of transport for almost all the departments of the hospital which makes it difficult for them to travel to the hinterlands to deliver health services, and also to prevent quack doctors and fake druggists who have invaded the area and are causing a lot of hardship to the people from operating.
He therefore passionately appealed to the Ministry of Health, the district assembly, non-governmental organisations, groups and individuals to go to the aid of the hospital since referring a patient from the hospital is a difficult decision to take due to the transportation difficulties from the area to other districts.
