The Member of Parliament for Lawra, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo has outlined some projects to be initiated in his constituency to bring about the development needed by the people.
This, according to the MP, has started with the signing of an instrument by President Akufo-Addo to elevate Lawra from a district to a municipality.
Speaking at the durbar to mark the Kobine Festival in the region, Mr. Karbo said he believed investing in his people will not only reduce their burden and hardship but also help the country achieve its Ghana Beyond Aid vision.
Stressing on some measures taken by his office to bring out development, the MP said he was focused on areas such as education, health, water and sanitation, rural electrification and unemployment.
“Currently, I have lobbied and distributed over 2,000 pieces of furniture to various kindergarten and basic schools within the Municipality with plans to acquire and distribute more across all levels of the educational setup in Lawra.
"I am also building a KG block at Kuoli primary school from my share of GETFUND.
This year alone, we intend to support at least 80 brilliant but needy students, including two students in Medical school and another pursuing a health-related program at the University of Ghana Legon.”
On rural electrification, Mr. Karbo said he was hopeful by 2020 “48 communities in the municipality will be connected to the National grid.
According to him “work has already commenced at Babile-Baagangn, Birifoh and all its communities like Bagri, Eremon Naburnye, Dazuuri and Eremon-Bompari and would soon be ready for commissioning.”
Touching on unemployment, he alleged that “several constituents have been engaged by the Youth Employment Authority, Ghana Education Service Limited recruitment exercise, Community police protection, NABCO and Forestry Commission for recruitment.
This he said included “57 Community Police personnel, 286 individuals engaged by the Forestry Commission, 200 engaged by NABCO and 74 persons engaged by the Ghana Education Service.”
The Kobine Festival which is celebrated annually in October, serves as both a harvest celebration and a homecoming for people who have left the constituency.
This year’s festival was graced by representatives from the office of the First Lady, Naa Puowele Karbo III who is the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional area, the Upper West Regional Minister, the NPP Upper West regional chairman, President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, the Municipal Chief Executive, and some Members of the Council of State.
