Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is calling various stakeholders to partner government in cementing peace in Dagbon after a protracted divisions between the two royal gates for more than a decade.
The Committee of Eminent chiefs tasked by government to find a lasting solution to the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute came out with the roadmap that led to the investiture of Ya-Naa Abubakari Mahama II as substantive Ya-Naa.
The two regents were also enskinned as chiefs for Savelugu and Mion respectively as part of the processes in the realizing total peace.
As part of the second leg of his Ramandan tour of the Northern Region, Vice President Bawumia joined the Muslims in Savelugu, Mion and Yendi in the Northern region for prayers.
He had iftar and performed Magrib prayer with the King of Dagbon,Yaa Naa Abubakari, who noted that, this is the first time in the history of the Gbewaa palace, that a Vice President of the Republic had participated in an Iftar and said prayers at the palace.
Alhaji Dr. Bawumia also paid courtesy calls on the Yoo Naa, Yakubu Andani Abdulai in Savelugu where he participated in the Zuhr prayer and the Mion Lana, Abdulai Mahamadu in Mion where he participated in the Asr prayer.
During his interaction, he underscored the need for peace saying “we have to continue to work hard to cement the hard won peace in Dagbon. May Allah bless Dagbon and Ghana”
