Let us protect our cultural heritage - Education Director

Obuasi, July 17 GNA - Mr Joseph K. Onyinah, Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, has called on Ghanaians to do everything possible to uphold the nation's cultural heritage.

"Culture is beyond drumming, dancing and poetry recitals. Culture represents our total behaviour as Ghanaians", he said. Mr Onyinah, who was opening the Municipal Inter-Junior Secondary School (JSS) Cultural Competition at Obuasi, said the Ghana Education Service (GES) was concerned about the total development of the individual that was why sports, culture and other activities were being taught in schools.

He charged teachers to assist their pupils and students to identify and develop their God-given talents.

Mr Onyinah said culture should not be seen as something ungodly but an expression of the beauty of the Ghanaian.

Mr Yaw Donkor, Municipal Culture Co-ordinator, said Ghanaians had to encourage the youth to develop their potentials adding that the responsibility should not be left in the hands of teachers alone. Mr Donkor urged teachers to attach importance to all cultural activities in their schools.
