The Paramount Queen Mother (Omanhemaa) of Gomoa Akyempim, Obaatanpa Ama Eduwa I, has called on all to unite to move the community forward and advance the traditions of the area.
She made this known during the cleansing and purification rituals of the traditional state, which is done to remove all superfluous elements, making the state more receptive to the guiding light of the Sun (Owia) while exalting the mother and the Moon (Osran).
In Fante tradition, the queen mother is honored as the daughter of the moon, a celestial figure embodying the feminine qualities of Nyame, the Supreme Being.
The Moon is believed to have given birth to the Sun (Amowia), which is personified as the Sungod.
This cosmic relationship is mirrored on earth, where the queen mother symbolises the great Mother-Moon goddess, and the king represents the Sungod.
"Together, they embody the divine balance of the universe within the earthly realm, with the state acting as a microcosm of this cosmic harmony," she said.
Until now, the Omanhemaa had been prevented from performing these rights following de-stooling of embattled Omanhene, Obrifo Ahor Ahunako Ankobia II.
Since his ascension in 2001, Omanhene Obrifo Ahor Ahunako Ankobia II’s reign has been characterized by actions perceived as eroding customs and threatening the stability of the community.
Among his most controversial decisions was the unilateral relocation of the Traditional Headquarters from Gomoa Assin to his private residence in Gomoa Buduatta.
