Little Angels Trust organises concert party for cancer awareness

Accra March 9, GNA-Little Angels Trust (LAT), an independent Charity, in collaboration with +233, an entertainment Centre, has organised an independence show to create awareness of children suffering from cancer. Mrs Lavinia Enim-Amui, founder of LAT, said Child cancer is becoming an increasing health concern in Ghana as child mortality rates from infectious diseases and malaria have reduced.

She said the organisation had a deep passion for helping the sick and children who are terminally ill to regain their strength since they are the future leaders. Mrs Enim-Amui said as we celebrate Independence Day, it was important to reflect and pray for the lives of lonely children who are suffering from various diseases.

She said the ultimate goal of the organization was to establish a Home where children with special needs and their families could find comfort, support, love and the care they needed at no cost to them. Mrs. Enim-Amui said in the organization's six years of existence, it had been able to support some day care centres and the children's unit of the Psychiatric Hospital.

She said the Trust had adopted and renovated the third floor of the Korle-bu Children's Oncology Cancer Unit as part of its social responsibility to the society. She appealed to corporate bodies and other philanthropists to donate in support of children who were seriously sick. Dr Adrian Oddoye, patron of +233, said the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is one of two tertiary hospitals in Ghana which diagnose at best only 200 cases a year and stated that over 75 per cent of children with cancer remain undiagnosed and untreated. He said the condition of children should be a concern for all and appealed to individuals and other corporate bodies to help financially in the treatment of child cancer.

Mr Gyedu Blay Ambylley, a renowned highlife musician said he felt proud to be associated with the programme since children are dear to the development of any country because they constitute the future. He said music is the strength of humanity and would inspire and touch the heart of individuals and corporate bodies to come to the aid of the destitute in society. Mr Ambulley urged all to be truthful to ourselves and learn to share with others especially those who needed help.
