The two Deputy Women organisers died in a car accident on the Kintampo – Techiman highway after attending the funeral of Mrs Mercy Ankomah, the elder sister of the First Lady.
Mrs Mahama, who extolled the virtues of Hajia Adiza, said she will be missed as she was a hardworking party executive, loving and compassionate person. She pledged to support the family in whatever way she could, so as to preserve her memory, particularly, her good works in the community.
On her part, Hajia Amina Salley, mother of the deceased, expressed gratitude for the visit and assured the First Lady that even though Hajia Adiza was a major part of her life as well as the family’s, they have accepted what God has destined and will therefore pull together as one family in this time of great grief.
The husband of the late Hajia Adiza, Chief Ahmed Ibrahim, Chief of the Wangara community in the Ashanti Region told the First Lady that Hajia Adiza’s death was pre-destined and that if she had not travelled to Kintampo, once she finished her sojourn on earth, her death would still have occurred as planned by God. He thanked the First Lady for her show of concern, compassion and great love for the family.
The First Lady donated food items and unspecified amount of money to the widower and the deceased’s mother towards the seven days funeral rites scheduled to take place on Sunday the 4th of May 2014.
In a separate visit, the First Lady, accompanied by the National Deputy Women’s Organiser, Hajia Zaynab Joyce Mahama also visited the family of the late Madam Agnes Tia, the deputy Volta Regional women organiser of the NDC, who also died in the same accident, at the children’s home at Ashaley Botswe, a suburb of Accra.
The First Lady paid tribute to the late Madam Agnes, saying she was a dedicated woman, who led an exemplary life and was full of energy, with a desire to help others. She said it is unfortunate the country has lost a patriotic and hardworking woman as in Madam Agnes Tia.
Mrs Mahama, who could not hold back her tears, promised to support the bereaved family to give Madam Agnes a befitting funeral.
The spokesperson for the family, Mr Jacob, informed the First Lady that a meeting will be convened on the 10th of May to decide the burial date of Madam Agnes and that the date would be conveyed to the First Lady.
