Aspiring Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region, Simon Kwaku Tetteh has lifted the mood at schools in the metropolis with the donation of over 900 pieces of mono and dual desks.

At a short ceremony on the compound of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, Mr. Tetteh who is also the serving Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), handed out the gift to the Municipal Director of Education, Samuel Kwasi Tettey.

The donation of the desks was made to the Lower Manya Municipal Directorate of Education to be distributed to schools in the municipality.

The director of education also handed the items to the teachers who subsequently transported them to their various schools.

Simon Kwaku Tetteh in an interview after handing over noted that furniture remains one of the most critical needs of education where its inadequacy remains a major problem for the schools.

“I feel that when the children go to school, they need a comfortable environment to study and one of the items that they need in the classroom is the furniture,” he said.

According to him, the donation will help alleviate the insufficiency of desks in schools in the area and reiterate the government’s commitment to education and the determination of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to see through transformational programmes like Free SHS.

Though the PC noted that most challenges relating to education in Lower Manya Krobo had been addressed, he nevertheless said he was committed to undertaking major initiatives to improve education.

These include supporting the schools with e-learning materials such as projectors, teacher awards as well as a scholarship fund to support brilliant students.

The parliamentary candidate urged the teachers to support his MP bid to enable him to contribute his quota to the development of education in the area.

Handing over of toilet facility:

Also, residents of Nuaso-Larteh, a suburb of Lower Manya Krobo welcomed the official handover of a renovated modern 20-seater water closet toilet facility.

This significant milestone was achieved through the efforts of the MCE and aspiring Member of Parliament for the area, Simon Kwaku Tetteh.

The parliamentary candidate spearheaded the project to provide a much-needed sanitation solution for the community.

He was accompanied by the Assemblymember for the area, Asafoatse for Nuaso-Larteh, NPP Constituency Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Siakwa, and various constituency and polling station executives, to officiate the commissioning ceremony.

At the official unveiling, the community was filled with excitement as residents gathered to inspect the newly constructed facility as they took turns to inspect the modern water closet toilet amid cheers and hailing for their MCE.

As part of efforts to improve sanitation in the Nuaso community, other sanitation facilities have been addressed.

These include the renovation and building of five toilet facilities within the
Nuaso township.

The assembly chief however encouraged the beneficiaries to ensure that they maintain the facility very well to ensure that it lasts long enough to serve its purpose.

In his remarks during the handover ceremony, Mr. Tetteh reiterated his commitment to addressing critical community needs and pledged to continue working towards the development of Lower Manya Krobo and its residents.

Assemblyman for the Nuaso Old Town Electoral Area, Kofi Nomo Isaac Tetteh expressed his utmost appreciation to the MCE for his timely intervention, explaining that sanitation was a major challenge confronting the community.

He however appealed for additional refuse containers to improve refuse collection in the Nuaso area.

On his part, Asafoatse for Nuaso-Larteh, Ahuma BB II said he was thankful for the intervention after several years of appeals for its renovation.

According to him, it would go a long way to improve the sanitation situation in the area and gave the firm assurance that the toilet would be properly maintained.
