Kumasi, June 23, GNA - Ms Lydia Lariba Bawa, Board Member of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT), on Thursday, cut the sod for the commencement of work on an ultra-modern passengers waiting lounge at its Abrepo-Junction terminal in Kumasi.
Expected to be completed within two months, it would provide travellers with comfortable and secured world class waiting sheds.
She said the project would be replicated in all the 16 depots of the company nationwide.
Ms Bawa said they were determined to ensure that the situation, where passengers queued in the hot sun and in rain to board buses was consigned to history.
She said it should not be lost on anyone the key role public transportation played in the economies of both developed and developing countries.
It was on account of this that the MMT would do everything to provide the people with reliable, efficient, safe and affordable means of transportation.
Ms Bawa said they were expecting the arrival of 200 new buses by the close of the year to add to their fleet.
She used the occasion to underline the need for passengers to always insist on valid personal ticket any time they travelled on the bus.
"This is the only way, we as Ghanaians can help sustain this company and improve the lot of all Ghanaians", she added.
