MP for Jaman North tours communities in his constituency

Sampa (B/A) April 03, GNA - Mr Alex Asum-Ahensan, the Member of Parliament for Jaman North, has toured communities in the constituency to discuss with the people how best to solve their developmental problems.

The tour took him to Jinini, Adadiem, Bonakire Jamera, Kabile, Kaabre, Kokosu Nos 1 and 2, Nsonsomea, Dawiri and Nwamsua. Others were Asiri, Asuokor, Jankufa, Buni, Jinankor, Adinkrakrom, Asantokrom, Yawtwenekrom and Goka. He distributed exercise books to all the junior secondary schools in the communities and solar lanterns to schools in communities without electricity.

Mr Asum-Ahensan advised the people to take communal labour seriously and urged them to rekindle their voluntary spirit that is dying away in the society.

The most central issue raised by the constituents was the deplorable condition of the Drobo-Sampa and Nsawkaw roads that posed great danger to both vehicles and the people. "The poor condition of the road net-work in the area is making carting foodstuffs and cashew nuts to the marketing centres very difficult."

In some of the communities, cashew farmers called on the government to get involved in the purchase of the crop to ensure fair and stable producer prices.

The farmers said they were not happy about the low producer price offered them by private dealers.

Currently a kilogram of cashew is sold at 4000 cedis. The farmers appealed to the government for loans to maintain their farms since Jaman North District was the leading cashew producing area in the country.

The MP announced a sponsorship package he had initiated through the MP's share of the Common Fund for needy but brilliant pupils and students. 03 April 06
