Kumasi, Aug 1, GNA - A six-unit classroom block that
was renovated at a cost of GH¢50,000 for the Maakro M/A Primary
School in Kumasi, was on Thursday inaugurated by Mr Osei Kyei
Mensah-Bonsu, Minister of State and Member of Parliament (MP)
for Suame Constituency. Mr Mensah-Bonsu stressing on the role of education in the
socio-economic development of the country, he appealed to
parents, guardians, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School
Management Committees (SMCs) not to relent to assist the
education of children. The project was funded with proceeds from the MP's
Common Fund. Mr Mensah-Bonsu said the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
government was committed to improving education which explained
why it had put in measures such as the Capitation Grant and School
Feeding Programme and the provision of infrastructure. He said he had also provided a number of facilities such
as the construction of classroom blocks, provision of furniture,
exercise books for some schools to the Constituency. The beneficiary schools include the New Suame
Methodist Primary and Junior High School (JHS), Nuru Islamic
Primary and JHS at Old Suame, Kronom and Breman M/A Primary
and JHS. Mr Mensah-Bonsu also said scholarships have been
awarded to about 40 needy and brilliant students at various levels of
education to the tune of about GH¢10,000. He appealed to the PTA, SMC, students and pupils as
well as teachers of the school to take proper care of the facility to
ensure its longer life span. Mrs Margaret Nabb, Assemblywoman for the area
commended the MP for his untiring efforts to develop the area by
providing the people with potable water, access roads and electricity
to improve their living conditions. She appealed to the people to vote massively for him and
Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in both December 7
Parliamentary and Presidential Elections. Mrs Beatrice Obed, the head teacher of the school said
the damage to the school, prior to the renovation, was caused by a
severe rainstorm three months ago and thanked the MP for coming
to their aid.
