MP set to help develop Akrofuom constituency

Akrofuom (Ash), June 9, GNA - The creation of the Akrofuom constituency in the Adansi South District of Ashanti, has offered the area an opportunity for socio-economic development. Mr K. Appiah-Pinkrah, the first Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, stressed that, "the area is now on the threshold of elevating itself from a deprived to a developed community. Speaking to the press about the development challenges facing the constituency at Akrofuom on Wednesday, Mr Appiah-Pinkrah said, "there is no competition between the New Edubiase constituency and that of our constituency. The competition is for me to assist in the development of the Akrofuom constituency".

He said Akrofuom needed a lot of development and that would be achieved through the involvement of all the people in the area. The MP, however, announced a number of projects in the pipeline, as a result of his initiative.

"The Akrofuom-Obuasi road would be tarred, while the Sikaman-Nkoransa road is being repackaged for the award of the contract", Mr Appiah-Pinkrah said.

Mr Appiah-Pinkrah announced that the Akrofuom Secondary/Technical School would definitely be upgraded from the community school level to a first graded one.

He also said a boys' dormitory would be built and that the moulding of blocks for the project had started. In addition, he said, a computer laboratory would be constructed, saying, "that is a priority project of the government. Mr Appiah-Pinkrah said work on the Akrofuom Children's Centre Complex was progressing steadily and that on completion, the centre would serve as a training facility for the youth.

On water, the MP said he had started fruitful interaction with the leadership of the Adansi South District Assembly for Akrofuom to be considered under the Small Town Water Supply Programme. "Akrofuom has a population of over 10,000 and that we deserve that kind of facility, instead of boreholes", Mr Appiah-Pinkrah stressed. 9 June 06
