MTN Ghana Foundation Supports Shama Health Directorate with medical items

Shama (W/R), Sept. 6,GNA—MTN Ghana Foundation has presented medical items worth GH¢ 41,300 to the Shama District Health Directorate to enhance quality health delivery in the district.

They include 4 desk computers, 1 ultrasound machine, 10 haemoglobin-meters, a new register and call credits for field volunteers. The items are to support the Pregnancy Register and Handing-Over System (PRHOS) developed to ensure quality maternal and child health care in the district.

The Shama District Health Director, Dr. Maame Amo-Addae, received the items on behalf of the directorate and expressed gratitude to the MTN Ghana Foundation for the kind gesture.

She pledged the health directorate’s commitment to put the items to good use to benefit the people of Shama and its surrounding communities.

Mr. Samuel Appiah, Senior Manager for Western and Central Business districts said the health of any nation is its wealth, adding, maternal health is a critical area in our national development.

He noted that the health of the people has impact on the socio-economic development of the country and assured that, the MTN Ghana Foundation would continue to make huge investments in the area of health to enable the country meet its Millennium Development Goals.

He said MTN Ghana Foundation’s support to health directorate is in line with its vision to enrich the lives of communities in the area of health.

Mr. Appiah urged the Shama District Health Directorate to ensure proper handling and maintenance of the equipment

According to him, the Foundation has undertaken many projects including the refurbishment of the Maternity Ward of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the provision of equipment at the cost of US$600,000.

Others include the presentation of US$91,000 to the Princess Marie Louise Children Hospital in Accra to aid the construction of an Intensive Care Unit, the refurbishment of the Kpedze Health Centre and the presentation of medical equipments to the Kotokuom Health Centre, among others.
