Accra, Jan. 14, GNA - Dr Ahmed Mustapha, a Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, on Friday said the Ministry would soon undertake a comprehensive exercise to eject illegal occupants at the Kwame Nkrumah Flats at Lartebiokorshie in Accra.
He said government was considering rehabilitating and increasing the infrastructure at the premises to accommodate more public and civil servant= s in future. Dr Mustapha announced this after a surprise inspection tour of the facilities and conditions in the area. He said while some of the buildings had been in a deplorable state for some time now, there were many illegal occupants who had failed to maintain the infrastructure.
The Deputy Minister, who is also Member of Parliament for East Ayawaso= , expressed surprise at the poor sanitary conditions at the place and appeale= d to the occupants to undertake periodic clean-up exercises to make the area environmentally friendly.
He pledged the government's commitment to utilise the available spac= e to increase the infrastructure to accommodate more occupants and urged them to abide by the rules and regulations on the use of government housing facilities. "This is a prime accommodation area and government will put in measu= res that will improve on accommodation facilities for workers," Dr Ahmed adde= d.
