Hundreds of unemployed youth across the Brong-Ahafo Region yesterday besieged the premises of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) with their bags, chop boxes, trunks and mattresses ready for training at the Police Training School in Kumasi for the Youth In Police module of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) programme.
Some of them told DAILY GUIDE that they came from Wenchi, Kintampo and other places in the region. They were first sent to the Sunyani Municipal Assembly premises but later sent to the RCC premises. They became stranded for several hours as officials of the YEA were not telling them anything.
This paper’s enquiries established that the youth were those who registered online to be recruited into the various youth employment modules, including Youth In Community Police, Prisons, Youth In Coastal Sanitation, Environmental Protection, E-health Assistance and others. DAILY GUIDE learnt that they had already passed their medical tests and interviews and had been asked to go for training beginning yesterday.
The paper also learnt that the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP Maxwell Atingane, who was expected to brief them on what to do before their departure, was annoyed with them because they were said to have come to Sunyani late and so could not talk to them but asked them to hurriedly get on board their vehicles and go to the training ground in Kumasi.
