Accra, May 21, GNA - Public School Teachers in Madina on Thursday went on a peaceful demonstration to press home their demand for the restoration of the Teachers' Pension Ordinance of 1955 also known as CAP 30.
The demonstration ended with the presentation of a petition to President John Agyekum Kufuor through the Ga District Chief Executive at Amasaman.
Speaking to GNA in Madina, the Teachers described as unfair disparities between the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Pension Scheme and CAP 30.
They contended that while teachers who retired under CAP 30 received between 80 million cedis and 100 million cedis their counterparts under the SSNIT Pension Scheme were paid between 700,000 cedis and 13 million cedis depending on the rank of the Teacher at the time of retirement.
The teachers, therefore, resolved that if by the end of May 2004, Government was unable to rectify the anomaly, they would advise themselves.
