Malol-lol Foundation poised to give children better future

Malol-lol Ghana Foundation, a charitable organization with the aim of providing sound and good quality educational atmosphere for children, with more focus on the girl-child, has been launched in Accra.

The Foundation is the project work of Miss Abigail Baciara Bentie, affectionately called Baci, the 2014 winner of Ghana’s Most Beautiful show organized by TV3 Network.

Prior to entering the beauty contest, Baci envisioned a society in which children are given the emotional, social, economic and reproductive health assistance to enable them have access to quality education.

In this vein, the 2014 Ghana’s Most Beautiful queen decided to pursue her vision upon winning the competition, by setting up the Malol-lol Ghana Foundation which would see to it that young children are supported to have good quality education.

The objectives of the Foundation include: • Making the school environment conducive for teaching and learning and in order to keep children in school.

• Reducing overcrowding in schools by expanding school buildings including removing schools under trees.

• Increasing enrolment opportunities for physically challenged children.

• Providing incentives for teachers particularly those in derived communities.

• Making access to teaching and learning materials including ICT tools to pupils.

• Improving school management and governance structures with support of all stakeholders i.e. parents, teachers, assembly members, traditional leaders, policy makers, religious and civil society groups among others.

Activities of the Foundation will be spearheaded in the Upper West Region of Ghana and progressively, spread throughout the country.

Some of the activities Malol-lol Foundation will embark on are: visiting various schools across the country and helping to teach for free on days to be set aside by the foundation; financially supporting some of the schools (deprived rural schools); volunteering to paint school buildings; helping with free ICT education; championing general hygiene campaigns and reproductive healthcare advocacy in schools, and encouraging reading culture among basic school children in community.

Baci believes that “Education is undoubtedly an effective tool for national development which requires long term investment and coordinated efforts on the part of all the stakeholders”, and therefore calls on the government, parents, educationists, corporate institutions and the general public to come on board and support the worthy cause of the Malol-lol Ghana Foundation.

The Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, in a brief media interview at the launch reiterated the need for more investment in the education sector, especially promoting good quality education amongst the youth, especially the girl-child.

The Wa Central Member of Parliament was hopeful that the vision of the Malol-lol Ghana Foundation will be established, and the education sector in Ghana will be a successful institution.
