Mampong citizens urged govt to speed up development

Mampong (Ash), April 6, GNA - Some residents of Ashanti Mampong in the Sekyere West District of the Ashanti Region had expressed dismay about the slow pace of development in their localities.

Expressing their views at a Peoples Assembly at Mampong organised at the forecourt of the Mampong-Ashanti High Court, they said works on Mampong township roads, feeder roads, and upgrading of some schools had unduly delayed.

Some residents also said they were not happy with youth unemployment and the high crime wave. Some were also asking for the fencing of the local market.

An octogenarian, Mr Sekyere Kwadwo expressed concern about the increasing incidence of robbery in the town and appealed to the authorities to deal with the problem without delay. Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the Regional Minister said the ruling New Patriotic Party was a listening one and assured the people that their grievances would receive serious attention.

He said rehabilitation of the Mampong township roads was on cause and the government would make sure the work was completed on schedule. Mr Boafo used the opportunity to urge the people not to take the prevailing peace in the country for granted since peace and stability was critical for socio-economic development.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Mr Peter Asum Sakodie and Kwame Osei Prempeh, MP for Nsuta-Kwamang, used the forum to explain government policies to the people.

The Sekyere West District Chief Executive, Mr Haruna Oppong Boateng called on citizens of the area to support the Assembly to speed-up development projects.
