Mankessim Golden Jubilee Health Center a White Elephant

Cape Coast Feb. 14, GNA- Miss Cecelia Dadson, a midwife at the Golden Jubilee Health Center in Mankessim, has appealed to the government to help connect electricity to the health center. She said since the center was inaugurated in February 2007 it had not done any effective work due to the lack of electricity and that they had appealed to the Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive of the area to get electricity for the health center as well as a bungalow for the resident doctor but all proved futile.

Miss Dadson said this when the Mankessim Development Association (MDA), a youth association in Mankessim, donated drugs worth GH¢600 to the health center at Mankessim on Wednesday.

She said due to the lack of good access road to the centre, unavailability of telephone, an ambulance and hospital equipment, it has made the health center a "white elephant". Mr Johnny Arthur, president of MDA who presented the items on behalf of the association, said the donation was their widow's mite to keep the centre running.

Mr. Emmanuel Dodoo, head of the University Of Ghana branch of the association, also appealed to members of the community and citizens of Mankessim to assist the health center.
