Market women need adequate security - CPP

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called for the need to put in place adequate security measures to protect market women against the frequent fire outbreaks.

The party said the socio-economic importance of market women in growing a vibrant and sustainable economy was commendable; hence there was the need to offer them adequate protection.

A statement signed by Mr Nii Armah Akomfrah, CPP Director of Communication and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Sunday said.

“We must improve and strengthen night time security at markets now,” it said.

The statement called for greater attention to the needs of Market Women Associations, by selling to them market lands, offer adequate storage, toilets, running water and crèches.

“We must ensure the security of tenure or leaseholds of trading sites for members of Market Women Associations, and create an asset-rich class eligible for bank loans,” the statement said.
